Kapuso Stars, Maine Mendoza, Julie Anne San Jose, Express Their Support For ABS-CBN Amid Network Shutdown

TWEET SCOOP: Artists from GMA, ABS-CBN’s rival network, set aside the competition and sent messages of solidarity to their counterparts last night amid network shutdown.


The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) ordered ABS-CBN network on Tuesday to stop operations due to the expiry of its legislative franchise. The network signed off at 7:52 p.m. on Tuesday, after airing the national anthem, naming its engineers and its TV stations. The shutdown covers five AM stations, including DZMM, 18 FM stations, and 42 TV stations, including Channels 2 and 23.

A minute after ABS-CBN went off the air on Tuesday night following the cease and desist order from the National Telecommunications Commission, some of the Kapuso stars immediately took to social media to express their support for ABS-CBN. 

See their messages below:

  • Maine Mendoza - The TV host expressed her support by tweeting out the three heart emojis in the color of ABS-CBN’s logo.


  • Julie Ann San Jose - "Yakap at dasal" Asia's Pop Diva wrote to offered prayers and comfort for the 11,000 artists and workers of ABS-CBN.



  • Lovi Poe - "Prayers for everyone." The actress wrote to sends prayers for everyone who affected by the network shutdown.



  • Bea Binene - "Dasal, yakap, at puso." Bea wrote to send virtual hugs and prayers to all network's workers.


  • Janine Gutierrez shared a post highlighting the importance of press freedom, saying it ensures that the abuse of every other freedom can be known and can be challenged and defeated.



The former Kapamilya artists also show their sympathy to the Mother Network:


"12 years ako dito. Dito nabuo pagkatao at mga pangarap, madami ako mga mahal sa buhay na naiwan sa network na to... Kasama nyo ako sa mga dasal nyo kapamilya..."  - Jason Abalos wrote. 

'The Clash' host, Rayver Cruz expressed her support by tweeting out the three praying hands and heart emojis in the color of ABS-CBN’s logo.

Lauren Young, sister of Ms. World 2013, Megan Young says " My heart aches for the thousands of people who will become jobless because of this shutdown. ABS-CBN isn't just for teleseryes and seeing your favorite celebrities but a channel to get news and updates on what's happening around us."







For only the second time in its history, ABS-CBN has gone off the air. The first time it was forced off the air was in September 1972 when the then, President Ferdinand Marcos placed the country under martial law.
