Mariah Carey Announces New Album, 'The Rarities', To Drop Unreleased Lauryn Hill Collaboration

Mariah Carey shocked her Lambs (Mariah fans) by announcing a surprise new album, The Rarities, on Wednesday. 


Yes, you heard it right! The legendary singer, announced an upcoming album, titled “The Rarities,” on Instagram late Tuesday.

“This one is for you, my fans. It’s to celebrate us, and to thank you for years of pure love and support. I am so grateful to you,” she captioned a photo of what appears to be the album cover.



The 50-year-old legend called the new album 'monumental' during an appearance on GMA where she also discussed her upcoming memoir "The Meaning of Mariah Carey."  




"I found stuff in my vault that I had either started to work on a long time ago and never released or that I wanted to kind of finish mixing," she told GMA's, Michael Strahan.

"There are songs that have previously not been released, so it's exciting." she added. 'It's a monumental occasion for my career,' she said. And, then added with a laugh: 'Being in this business for two years is really tough but somehow we've lasted.' 



The Rarities is a two-disk album that will feature never-before-heard songs from Mariah's three-decade-long career spanning from 1990-2020. The album is set for release on Oct. 2 and is currently available for pre-order.


A Mariah Carey and Lauryn Hill Collab Is on the Way

According to Billboard, the forthcoming 15-track album will feature a highly anticipated unreleased song titled "Save the Day," featuring fellow singer and songwriter Lauryn Hill.

During an interview today on Good Morning America, Carey teased that the song will be released this Friday and that her longtime friend and collaborator Jermaine Dupri helped bring the track to life.

The upcoming track, titled "Save the Day," is the first single from Carey's upcoming album, The Rarities.
