ABS-CBN Network finally announced to the public the sad fate of the much-awaited remake of “Darna” starring Jane de Leon.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the production of Jane de Leon’s version of ‘Darna’ was suspended indefinitely according to the official statement released by ABS-CBN this afternoon. Along with this, the closure of ABS-CBN made it difficult to collect funds to continue production.
Statement on “Darna” Film:
The rights to “Darna” remain with ABS-CBN as it decides to postpone the film production indefinitely after careful deliberation on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on movie production and cinemas.
We are committed to following production guidelines under the new normal and the safety of the actors and production team is a top priority. However, because the movie requires complex logistics, crowd shots, and fight scenes that involve physical contact, it will be difficult to give justice to the superhero film while strictly adhering to the guidelines.
We are still in the midst of an unprecedented health crisis that makes it also difficult to assess when cinemas will recover and see audiences returning.
We thank the cast, staff, and production crew for all the hard work they put into the project. We are also grateful to the Ravelo family, the Darna fans, and the public for their unrelenting support and understanding.
Jane de Leon’s Reaction:
A few hours after ABS-CBN made the announcement, Jane de Leon took to social media her reaction to the postponement of her upcoming project. She admitted to feeling sad because of what needs to happen, but she recognized the fact that safety must be a priority amid the pandemic. The gorgeous actress also thanked her supporters for understanding the sad fate of the “Darna” movie. “I’m deeply saddened by the postponement of the Darna project. However, safety comes first as always,” she wrote.
“Thank you so much for the support & understanding. Let’s pray for everyone’s safety. God Bless!” she added.
2017 when Angel Locsin bows out of the film for health reasons. She supposed to reprise her Darna character for the Star Cinema - she played Darna back in 2005 for the GMA-7 series.
2018 when Liza Soberano was officially announced as the new actress to play the role of Darna but unfortunately, April last year, she resigns for health reasons, too.
The same year, when Star Cinema held auditions for the much-coveted Darna role and June 15, when Jane de Leon was announced to take the role.
